So, Hurricane Simon canceled a few events as our town boarded itself up against... nothing. Kudos to City Hall for overpreparing, as it turned out. Let's see what, if anything, Hurricane Trudy is dragging behind her.
Unrelated to hurricanes, I got notice this morning that the Palm Cabaret's reopening will be one more week. Keep an eye on ShowMePV.com for accurate information, which will be updated in the next day or so.
Sandra Bradley and I spent a delightful two hours at Il Pesce last Wednesday, taking advantage of their two-for-one special menu. I cannot get enough of the homemade fettuccine with mushrooms and truffle oil. As a friend once said after his first bite, "It is like eating God's earth." Amen! Patrice and I will be going this coming week.
After our indulgent dinner, we stopped at La Catrina Cantina to hear dear Angeloo, Vallarta's musical prodigy, sing Dimash only for his first set of the night. After each song, I thought, "That one is my favorite." And because the songs are in Japanese, Kazakh, Russian, and other languages other than English, I can barely remember the titles! He is our SuperStar! And La CC was almost a full house!
Just before I went to the airport to meet Patrice, I had my 7th Ozone Treatment and second Platelet-Rich Plasma shot(s). I didn't cry, a first; I'm apparently getting used to the scenario. Last week, I floated out of Irving's office on the lovely endorphin rush from the Prp and looked forward to greeting my sister the same way. Unfortunately, it wasn't. So, not letting the pain slow me down much, I am not sure why I had a different reaction. Fodder for my next appointment with the good doctor!
Patrice was burdened with suitcases, and we had a ball unpacking when we got home; lots of treats for me and Bogie. Speaking of home, please keep your eyes and ears open for a large, unfurnished, animal-friendly house for us to rent. We do have to move; no rush, next year is fine, but before the next rainy season for sure. Thanks in advance, and thanks to those who have already sent possibilities.
Hours after Patrice arrived, we headed to Georgia Darehshori's condo, picked her up, and went to The Social Club to celebrate Brian Bott's birthday.
A fundraiser at his birthday party raised donations for one of Brian's favorite charities, Vallarta Cares! Sequin-studded Spencer and Todd provided some of the music; Nick Rogers hosted and sang. Raffles were sold and won, the birthday cake was sliced and passed around, and the silent auctions were bid on. Our Vallarta community once again rose to the occasion, helped out, and enjoyed the Speakeasy's exotic environs.
An amazing classical string quartet debuted last night at Nacho Daddy. Madera Strings played to a standing-room-only, super-grateful crowd. The two violins, viola, and cello/double bass flew through two sets featuring 18th-century Mozart to Queen. Madera Strings' last song on their playlist was a surprise mashup of a fairly obscure Led Zeppelin tune rolled into relatively recent musical releases. A thundering standing ovation followed by shouts and screams for ''Otra''! The band - Angie, Eugenia, Mariel, and Luis - performed a gorgeous rendition of Eleanor Rigby as an encore, which, as I recall, was the first rock band tune to incorporate classical string musicians sixty years ago. Madera Strings will return to Nacho Daddy on December 06. Do not miss their sporadic performances this winter!
Chilly evenings are right around the corner, and if you need wood for your fireplace or fire pit, stop by Hyden Custom Furniture during office hours to pick out choice scraps that will keep you warm and keep a mountain of usable trash from ending up in the landfill.
Premium ceremonial pure cocoa is discounted by 20% this week at Ricardo Mazcal's Saturday Market from 10 am to 2 pm. Rich, delicious, and so good for you! Ricardo is on the Isla Cuale every evening from 4 to 6.
Coming up tomorrow in Versalles at Ita, Out & About Gay+ Mixer. Find Patrice and me for hugs!
On Wednesday, Colina Spay & Neuter Clinic Bingo starts at 4 pm at Nacho Daddy, and Angeloo will sing with Luis Villanueva at 6:30 pm at La Catrina Cantina.
This Friday, Pyramid Live with Christian Manly and Wendy Warhol is also at La CC. Be there at 4:30 if you want to play.
On Saturday at 11 am, Madeline Milne's Living Room Bookstore in 5 de diciembre hosts a live interview with Jessy Ruiz from Asphalt Radio. Jessy will talk with publisher Teena Clipston about her books and authors, some of whom will be there, including me, as I have a chapter in Expats: Living the Dream.
Sunday at 4 pm at Oscar's Restaurant on Isla Cuale is the official book launch of Expats: Living the Dream. A dozen stories explore moving from one's home country to another, and the whys and wherefores that connect the dots. I can't wait to read it myself, as I am only familiar with one chapter!
There will be a fancy dinner (sold out), but Oscar's menu will be available, and a cash bar will be open. Shadrack will provide entertainment, and books will be for sale! General admission is 250 pesos, and part of the evening will benefit Vallarta's School for Girls.
Have a spectacular week, and let's get this party started, From Here!
