From Here, July 06, Monday
Canadians had their bash first this month, followed by the Us's 250th Birthday on July 04. I have had a cold, so I stayed home pretty much all week and kept my germs to myself. Last night's one-goal loss to England is still breaking my heart - Mexico's El Tri was fierce, but the results remain: 3- 2.
Today is Wanda Grift's Celebration of Life in Winnipeg, Canada. The service will be live-streamed around 1:30 this afternoon. Rest in Peace, amiga. https://www.youtube.com/live/ed5dxL7s9Sk
I maintained the Scrabble crown in two games last Wednesday. Sharon Gerber Scherer was dealing with new medication; that's her excuse, and she's sticking to it. LOL!
I stopped by La Cruda PV on Basilio Badillo to wish Francie Nguyen and her new partners, Diego Guerrero and his husband, Momo, good luck on their latest adventure. Francie and Diego wanted to create a more Mexican-driven menu, with lower prices to encourage more locals to step into their lovely Hangover-Cure restaurant-bar.
The always-delightful Angeloo dedicated his entire first set during his Wednesday night slot at La Catrina Cantina to Dimash, singing at least two new songs I had not heard before. Dimash is coming to Guadalajara in November! As soon as the venue is announced, I will let you know. Patrice and I will be going for sure... Happy Birthday to me!
Family Feud, hosted by Christian Manly, drew a good-sized crowd at La Catrina Cantina last Friday. It was a fun two hours, won by the team that included Lydia Damato and Colette Zarry. Wendy Warhol did a commendable job as Christian's assistant. These games will be every other Friday over the summer - a great excuse to sit in the cold air, day-drink adult beverages, nibble on some wonderful popcorn, and cheer on all the teams.
The First Saturday to help fund Art Vallarta Museo took place in the very cool Speakeasy at the sister property high up on Pilitas, just off Olas Altas. A jazz duo provided music to punctuate the lively conversations taking place in every corner of this extravagant, cozy pop-up bar. It was especially good to see Sandra Bradley and Deborah Cole after weeks away. Lots of new faces as well. Put Saturday, August 01, on your calendar now, and join us!
The pile of free hardwood is growing weekly at Hyden Furniture. To stop this usable waste from adding to our landfill, go tomorrow, Tuesday, between noon and 4 pm, and talk to owner Sacha Cantor. Bring boxes, bags, and don't be shy about how much you take. All the scraps have to go, either free to you as an artist or someone with a fire pit in your yard, or a smoker, pizza business, whatever. The wood is clean, no varnish, glue, or paint. And, while you are there, have a look at the showroom - beautiful work!
My dear herbalist, Ricardo Mazcal on the Isla Cuale, has all his 'common cold' remedies 20% off this week. He loaded me up with goodies a couple of days ago, which have considerably lessened the misery! From herbal teas to Dragon's Blood, see him by appointment during the week and every Saturday, from 10 am to 2 pm, at his year-round Market between the John Huston statue and the swinging bridge to Aquiles Serdan.
Attention all Señoritas! The First Monday is celebrated at Langostinos on the beach, from 5 to 7 pm. Rain or shine, ladies, see you for cocktails later today.
Singer/Pianist/Realtor Derek Carkner is hosting Christmas in July at La Catrina Cantina, this coming Saturday, July 11, from 5 to 7 pm. See you there for some ho, ho, ho, From Here.
