Sisterly Shenanigans

From Here, May 18, Monday

My sister Patrice has arrived from the frozen north, and we have not stopped! The Tuesday tianguis in Coapinole turned up some fabulously fancy gowns to work on over the summer. The same day took us to Versalles for Out & About Puerto Vallarta magazine's penultimate Gay Mixer. Over 240 people turned up, jamming the inside of the Red Door Bar, filling the outside tables and surrounding streets with happy people. Owner Korant Prieur Caille and publisher Jerry Jones were both ecstatic with the exuberant turnout!

Patrice won one game AND the blackout jackpot at the Colina Spay & Neuter Clinic Bingo at Nacho Daddy. Of course, she gave the lion's share of her winnings back to the Clinic. The next bingo game will be on May 27.

Angeloo, Vallarta's budding 13-year-old superstar, sang another new Dimash song during his regular Wednesday, 8 pm, show at La Catrina Cantina. His voice is gaining richness and color weekly. He still needs our support to get to Los Angeles in person to audition for America's Got Talent.

May 16 marked two years since Humphrey Bogart, aka Bogie, moved into my house. My gorgeous Maine Coon kitty still jumps with each passing car on the street, which makes him even more lovable.

The powerhouse group that brought Cheeky Pool Club to the Gayborhood opened their sister property, the art deco-inspired, chic Cheeky Lounge on Lazaro Cardenas, this past weekend. The subtle colors, plush chairs, and plant-laden walls invite quiet conversation over artfully crafted cocktails or lunch. Patrice and I are going to sample their vegetarian burgers soon. Seating is indoor or out; the scantily clad waiters will take wonderful care of you!

The Sunday tianguis in Mojoneras was busy as usual, and after a few hours, the two of us had maybe covered a quarter of it, our bags stuffed with clothes.

Sunday evening found us at Il Pesce for the usual fettuccini with three kinds of mushrooms in truffle oil. Dinner was lively with Ric Roc and his partner of 48 years, Joe Schwachter. It was one of those amazing evenings when the company was as interesting and lovely as the food. It was great to hug the owner, Carlos Venegas, and his staff again.

La Catrina Cantina rocked to the 1950s, performed by Spencer Daily and Todd Brock. Georgia Darehshori, dressed accordingly, tried her best to dance her way out of her ballet flats. After Spencer and Todd's Eclectic Show, the three of us walked over to Garbo's Piano Bar to listen to Sargento Dan lead his Broadway Singalong.

Patrice brought Sargento his favorite chocolate bars from Canada - Coffee Crisp; he did not share, but we stayed anyway and enjoyed his voice and crazy sense of humor!

Tomorrow, Tuesday, from noon to 4 pm, get over to Hyden Furniture and pick up free hardwood for your pizza ovens and/or firepits. Owner Sacha Cantor will be happy to have his beautiful wood not go into the landfill.

Ricardo Mazcal, my magician of an herbalist, is taking 20% off his Anxiety Capsules this week. Find Ricardo on the Isla Cuale at his Saturday Market from 10 am to 2 pm.

It's Gay Pride week. Enjoy the Parade this coming Thursday at 4, followed by the massive block party on Lazaro Cardenas, produced by Chris Lopez, at 6 pm.
