I won't say much about the monster Hurricane Simon, still 50 kilometers offshore and south of us as I write this very early Monday morning, which means it isn't over. 'Nuff said.
I heard from my fave resto, Il Pesce, that they have reopened and are running their special 2-for-1 menu every Wednesday through the end of October. The best dish on that menu (and all I ever order!) is the homemade fettuccini with mushrooms and truffle oil; it is exquisite. Patrice and I are looking forward to eating there next Wednesday (she arrives on the 15th).
The second piece of fantastic seasonal news is that CelloVoci will return to Teatro Vallarta at the end of the year for a reprise of last year's smashing success. CelloVoci is Branden & James and Effie Passero, and emcee Sutton Lee Seymour, with Music Director Mark Hartman, will join them once again. I will let you know when tickets for 'Music of the Night' go on sale.
Deborah Cole was home from the Us and Europe for a New York minute, so we had lunch at La Bendita a couple of blocks away from La Comer. The place is so cute, the food fresh and delightful. Since she left again, we've scheduled our next meet-up for Halloween in Mojoneras.
Gay+ Mixer # 2 was at Bar Chachalaca last Tuesday. More than 200 happy campers networked, drank, made dates, and made new friends, and swore to meet at the next G+M at Galleria Dante. I will see you there at 6 pm tomorrow.
As I did at the first Mixer, I left just as the fun started, heading across town to see Angeloo entertain at Black Mirror on Naranjo. A full house in that cozy space enjoyed young Angeloo running through his repertoire, gaining a little more polish with each performance.
Bingo was another wash for me - ugh! Two game days in a row with no wins! Unheard of until now. I did, however, have a blast with my lucky table mates, Stan Wagner, his husband Rob Schamel, plus Rob's sister Sonja and her hubby Jeff, as they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. The Pug 911 Rescue fundraiser is also great fun for me, creating collections of the 'Pebbles for Pugs' fabric doorstops and, in response to ideas from customers, they now come in two weights: 500 grams for small doors and 1 kilo for heavier ones. Stan currently has Day of the Dead-themed PPs, another Happy Garden batch (one kilo), and some uber Glam PPs in gold lame, sequins, lace, and other fancy fabrics.
After combining six sessions of Ozone Therapy with Platelet-Rich Plasma for the first time last week, I am feeling an enormous change in my neck. Pain has dropped to less than half, mobility has increased, my mood has returned to something no longer evil, and I am getting things done because I want to, not because I have to. Dr. Irving Ramirez has literally turned my life around. We still have more work to do, but I am so grateful and happy about the difference from one day to the next, one treatment to the next, wowza!
Go and see Sacha Cantor this week with some bags or boxes and pick up some free hardwood scraps. Hyden Custom Furniture creates gorgeous trash that will go into the landfill if you don't stop by and pick out what you want or need. Artists alert!
Snail cream to remove scar tissue, regenerate skin, and reduce wrinkles is 20% off this week at Ricardo Mazcal's storefront on Isla Cuale. His year-round Market is open Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm, and you can see him during the week from 4 to 6 pm.
I have to move, so I am throwing this out there to everyone reading. I need a three-bedroom house minimum. Not an apartment, a real house with a yard, patio, some outdoor space. Ideally, it would be in town and affordable. Unfurnished or partially furnished. Must have space for Bogie and maybe my sister's dog. It is not urgent; I still have time on my lease, but if the right house comes along, I would jump at it.
Patrice will be here in three more sleeps. We may have time for a nap before we head to the Social Club at 7:30 for Brian Bott's birthday fundraiser for Vallarta Cares. Happy birthday to Stan Wagner on Friday, and 'Madera Strings' opens at Nacho Daddy this Sunday, the 18th, at 7:30 pm. Led Zeppelin played by a classical string quartet? Be still my beating heart! From Here.
