Passenger traffic at Puerto Vallarta International Airport fell sharply in June, deepening a first-half decline that has left the destination nearly 484,000 travelers behind last year’s pace, according to preliminary figures from Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP).
The airport handled 415,400 passengers in June, an 18.7% decrease from 511,100 in June 2025. International traffic saw the steepest decline, falling 33.4% from 237,300 passengers last June to 157,900 this year. Domestic passenger traffic declined 6%.
From January through June, Puerto Vallarta welcomed 3.32 million passengers, down 12.7% from 3.81 million during the same period last year. International traffic fell 18.2%, while domestic traffic dropped 4%.
The decline follows a similar trend earlier this year. In March, total passenger traffic fell 24.4% year over year, including a 32.1% decrease in international arrivals. By the end of the first quarter, overall traffic was down 10%.
Other Mexican beach destinations also reported softer international traffic. Los Cabos saw international passenger traffic fall 14.2% in June, while Cancún reported a 13.1% decline. Despite weaker demand, GAP noted new Puerto Vallarta routes to Puebla, Aguascalientes, and San Luis Potosí.
